Job title

In terms of 'job titles' I have performed in the following roles, operations, analyst, programmer, hardware engineer, system manager, project leader and consultant.

Languages

In the course of 40+ years it is not surprising that I have had to use most 3GL's including FORTRAN, COBOL, PASCAL, BASIC, DIBOL and ALGOL. These languages have been used on various hardware platforms. It is fair to say that FORTRAN on, say, VMS is slightly different from that on a Sun workstation or a PC but the differences are minimal. The same is true for most languages.

I have also used the 4GL's Oracle, Informix and Gembase.

The use of VBA with Excel and Word, and development of systems using Visual Basic and ODBC, integrated with Access, provide a clear understanding of current technologies.

Shipping Research:

The records of shipbuilding in Scotland prior to 1824 are very sparse. I am currently undertaking a project to document both shipbuilding and ship losses for the period 1750 - 1830.
