Launch day in 1947 as Girl Claire is about to take to the water.Two further photographs exist. One shows the boatyard at Killybegs and the other shows the workforce at the time when the boatyard re-opened in 1949.It is assumed that at least some of the people shown in the second photograph had a hand in building 'Ros Donn' in 1954.Unfortunately, due to copyright issues, the reader must get hold of a copy of 'Killybegs. Dublin2007 yard is only a repair facility The boat yard reopened in 1949. In 1965 it was sub-leased to Anton Mc Bride. In 1971 the boatyard became Meevagh Boatyard Ltd. under the administration of the Carr Family and managed by Frank Carr. During the years that followed 24 vessels were built and the Carr family continued to operate the boatyard until it closed in 1980. |
